A CCRC is a residential community that offers a variety of housing and care options for older adults, including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing, all on one campus. A CCRC meets residents' social, physical, and financial needs by providing services to accommodate every stage of life. A CCRC typically provides other services such as dining, housekeeping, scheduled transportation, home maintenance, security, and recreational and social activities.

What makes the Avery Heights model different in the CCRC arena?

It is essential to mention the Avery Heights difference. Unlike most nationwide CCRC models, Avery Heights is a rental-only community, so residents do not have to pay entrance fees or negotiate contracts. And Avery Heights has no buy-in fee: The Heights at Avery Heights doesn't charge a buy-in fee, unlike many other senior living communities. Avery Heights’ other great features and amenities are noted below. 

  • A full continuum of care: A range of care options, including assisted living, memory care, home health care, short-term rehabilitation, and skilled nursing care. 
  • Affordable: Affordable rental options.

Yes, Avery Heights is considered nondenominational and nonsectarian. It is a retirement community that welcomes people of all faiths and provides spiritual support to residents from various denominations.



Yes, Avery Heights is conveniently situated in Connecticut’s capital city, providing easy access to the arts, dining, and entertainment, as well as the vibrant Newington and West Hartford Center area. It’s a great location for residents who want to be near resources and amenities while living in a senior community.

Avery Heights offers short-term residential rehabilitation for those who need nursing and supportive care while recovering from an illness or surgery. The Avery Home Health agency provides pre- and post-operative therapy services as well as appointments for community members wishing to enhance mobility, balance, or move with greater ease and comfort. Our cottage, independent, Assisted Living, and Memory Care options have priority access to these services.

We do! Avery Heights is dedicated to those residents who require 24-hour nursing care. Avery’s highly skilled professional nursing team works in tandem with the medical director. Our cottage, independent, Assisted Living, and Memory Care options have priority access to these services.

Yes, pets are welcome at The Heights in our cottages and apartments.

Yes, the spiritual well-being of each resident, while an individual choice, is vitally important at Avery Heights. We have an active chaplain who is a source of leadership and inspiration through services, counseling, and Bible study groups. We also have services for most denominations and holidays such as Hanukkah and Christmas.

Yes, residents licensed to drive by the state of Connecticut can bring their automobiles. All residential units provide either street or garage parking.

We are a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not permitted.

Yes! We also offer shopping trips and bank trips for our Heights and Cottage residents.



Seven days a week, members of the Avery Heights community can count on a variety of activities and programs to meet their social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs.

Among the many engaging options are music and art classes, book clubs, restaurant dining, outings to area cultural attractions, exercise classes, educational programs, evening socials, movie nights, and more. Our Life Enrichment Director meets regularly with residents and family members to develop schedules for optimal recreational opportunities and quality of life.

Various meal plans are included on all levels. Cottagers may make reservations to e Enjoy meals in The Heights dining room or meals may also be ordered for pick up.



Yes, there are many award-winning hospitals in the area. including UConn, and Hospital for Special Care.

In addition to offering independent living residences, Avery Heights has assisted living, memory support, skilled care, and long-term care options. All residents on campus have priority to our higher levels of care. Fees are based on the level of care.
